June 2013
Dear Third Grade Family,
I can’t believe the school year is already over. It has been so exciting and such a joy to watch your children grow and learn so much. I am very proud of all the progress that each child has made. Your support and efforts at home have been the major reason for your child’s successes. Each of you is to be commended for your efforts. The children have had a very successful year in third grade, and they have matured into wonderful students. To prepare for fourth grade, I would like to suggest the following optional activities that can be completed over summer:
1- For success in math, continue to use xtramath.org each week. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for your child to know the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts before starting fourth grade. Riverdeep will also be fully functional all summer and has assignments posted for them to work on. All they need to login is their student number. (Remind them it is the one that starts with the letters PB.)
2- Everyone should read at least two books of their choice. Remember to log onto the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge and log your minutes each week. (www.scholastic.com/summer) Reading Plus (readingplus.com) will also be available all summer as well. The site code for Reading Plus is Calusa2051. They will also need their student number to login to Reading Plus.
3- Keep a journal and write in it at least once a week. Try to write a well-written small moment each time and remember to use correct capitalization and punctuation. Remember that small moments should include: dialogue, sensory details, tiny actions, internal thoughts, and onomatopoeia.
4- Science/ SS- I am sending home textbooks to help your child remember all of the concepts we have worked on this year.
These activities will help transition your child from third to fourth grade. There are also additional online resources available on our website (www.mswallace-calusa.weebly.com). If you would like them to get some extra help this summer, I will be available for tutoring, enrichment, and babysitting. If you would like to get a hold of me, I will check my email at least once a week.
Have a wonderful, enjoyable, and happy vacation!
Educationally Yours,
Ms. Wallace

Thank You!!!
I just wanted to say thank you for all of the kind thoughts and gifts last week! They really made me feel special and appreciated. I also wanted to take this time to say thank you for a great year. It has gone by so fast. I will be putting together a packet of ideas to send home right after Memorial Day so that the students do not forget anything they have worked so hard to learn this year.
Once again, thank you for everything you have done at home this year to help your child be successful!
